Callaway Gardens

Happy April and Spring to all!
This month over at "Picture This"  our challenge is to create a layout with either
Green & White or Green & Black.
For my layout I chose to use Green & Black!
First, I started with a Spring photo of my two children and me at Callaway Gardens in GA.  We were putting our faces through a board with cutouts of flowers.  Second, I chose the papers that had some Green and Black.   Thirdly, I fussy cut all the detail items from the papers: Flowers, doilies, and birds.  Then I layered the elements on top of each other to add dimension.  Also inked and distressed the edges.

Farm Chicks

Happy March!  Over at "Picture This" we have a new fun challenge!  A mood board!

To celebrate this time of nature waking up to life, we have for you a fun "Spotty mood board". You can use the colour palette, the spots or the general impression of the board to inspire you to create - please, make sure that in your post you tell us which element(s) exactly inspired your project.

I created a layout using two photos from me and my sister, Lianne's childhood.  Every summer our family would go to Pennsylvania to visit our Great-Grandma and our Aunt Pauline.  They lived on a farm where there was a cow, a lot of land and deer .  Great-Grandma  cooked and kept the house warm with  a coal burning stove. Every day she went down with her bucket to the basement, to gather some coal for the day.  We would have fresh corn on the cob every day, so  the whole house would smell like corn all the time!  Another memory I have of her is, every night she would light a Hurricane oil lamp that she would burn all night long.  I also remember  they had an outhouse and even though they put in a bathroom in the house, Great-Grandma and Aunt Pauline preferred to go outdoors.  They both lived very long and healthy lives.  Great memories.

Poetry Is In The Air

February Blog Hop

Thank you for joining our February …It’s in the Air Blog Hop. We are so excited to celebrate the Month of February in the scrapbooking world with you, while letting you get to know our DT members a little better. The blog hop will give you a peek at their style and techniques. If you have started from the beginning I hope that you enjoyed Emma's challenge!  If you are just joining the hop here, you should go back to the beginning at "Picture This", (after you have checked out my challenge for the hop), so you do not miss anything.
Now I would like to introduce myself:
Hi, my name is Lisa and I am one of the DT member's of "Picture This Challenges".
My theme is "Poetry is in the Air"
February being the month of love I would like you to create a layout inspired by the Valentine's Day poem:
"The rose is red, The violet's blue, The honey's sweet, and so are you!
Thou Art my Love, and I am Thine. I drew Thee to my Valentine:
The lot was cast and then I drew, And Fortune said, "It should be You."

Here is what I created: A layout using an old fashion Certificate of Marriage that I placed my Mother and Father's Wedding photos on from 1950. First I stamped the background of the red paper with the Wedding Vows. Then, I layered with lace, different red and rose paper. And lastly I included many embellishments, like angels, flowers, and pearls. Since the poem was very passionate I tried to make my layout as romanic as possible.

I stamped the background with "The Wedding Vows"
and I placed an angel holding Violets.
I incorporated Red and Rose papers and another angel holding roses

I hope I have inspired you to now start having fun creating with whatever moved you from the poem!
Example: The colors, the flowers and/or the poetry in the poem.
I am so looking forward to seeing your creations!
I will be voting for my favorite "Poetry Is In the Air" Layout that is completed from my blog so please get those submissions in.
The lovely prize that is up for grabs is two Artist Trading Card Kits from CraftyChicByHandCreations!
**Once you complete this challenge you will upload it to the Picture This blog which will be your last stop. Tag your layout with the Design Team member’s name as well as their challenge type,
for example: Lisa's "Poetry". That way we know which hop challenges you are participating in.
Challenge Rules: Each DT member will vote for their favorite participant’s layout and after that DT will take each of our favorites and choose as a team who is our final winner of …It’s in the air blog hop. The more challenges you complete the more chances you have to be selected from each DT member and be in the final vote for the prize. No combining challenges on this one we want to inspire you and get you creating layouts and see your creativity. You have until 11:59 pm CST on February 22nd to upload your layouts to the Picture This Blog.

    Let It Snow

    Happy and Creative New Year!

Hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones and are ready to start the New Year in a  creative way.
Our January challenge over at Picture This is "Mixed media"!

For those of you unsure of what mixed media is exactly - "Mixed media" tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media—for example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work. The main idea is to mix dry (paper, canvas, textiles) and wet (paints, texture paste, inks) media in one piece of work.

So gather some supplies such as different sorts of papers, inks, stamps, Gesso, texture paste, stencils,
embellishments, etc…. and create a "MIxed media" project.

Remember that we are not limited to only using paper or only creating scrapbooking projects. If you feel like you'd like to try making a card, canvas or an off the page project - go for it!
End of the day art is about expanding your horizons and stepping out of ones comfort zone.
    Now let's have some FUN!

For my Mixed-media project I started with a photo from when we lived in New Hampshire where it snowed a lot!  Then I gathered all my supplies that were related to snow!   Pattern paper that had a snow theme, wooden snowflakes (that I covered with white heavy gesso and some glitter), "Let it Snow" and Snowflake stamps, and some snowflake elements.

As you can see, I created a very snowy and wintery layout!

I also got inspired by " The Scrappy Sketches " January Sketch LO Challenge
    (deadline is January 29th).
