Winter in July

Hi!
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!  Hot or cold!
I am starting out this month with inspiration from two challenges.  First is the sketch from Let's Get Sketchy by Brenshevia
and  the Winter theme of my layout comes from Pixels and Paper.  A blog with challenges  from Australia where July marks the mid point for their winter.
Hence my blog title "Winter in July"!
The photo on my layout is of my Son, Sky when he was around 7 years old.  He would skate on the pond in front of our home in New Hampshire for hours.  He just loved skating!!    Living in the south now he really does miss the snow and ice.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Remembering

Hello!
 It has been awhile.
This week's inspirations came from two challenges.  First from Brenshevia's  sketch over at Let's Get Sketchy.   The other was from  ARTastic Challenge Blog.  Where they are working with the amazing artwork by Josh Miels called We will remember them.  The CRITERIA is to use TYPOGRAPHY on our work.
Making this week's layout has been very emotional.  Four years ago this week my Father died and the letter I placed on my layout was found in an old book I had purchased around the same time.  I was going through some other books when I came across  this one and when I went to look in it, it opened to the page with this letter from Dad to his Dearest Daughter.  (page 119).  There was also on the opposite page a letter from Mother to her Dearest Daughter.  I read them both and felt my Daddy and Mommy were sending me a message to comfort me.  To let me know they were together again. We are never too old to need comfort from our loved ones.

March's First Challenge

Hello!
Let's Get Sketchy's March Week 1 sketch designed by Brenshevia was one of my inspirations for this layout.
Triangles are going to be used in some form all month long over at LGS.
What fun!
The other inspiration was over at Scrap Our Stash 's March  Book Challenge.
      The Challenge:
Create a layout inspired by the BOOK COVER.
You are allowed to use anything from the cover that inspires you,
for instance, the banner, the colors, title, etc.
AND...you must include GOLD embellishments and/or GOLD alphas
on your layout!

The photo on the layout is of my daughter, Ashley,  on our family vacation to Bald Head Island.
A very beautiful place!

All You Need is Love & a Dog

Hello!

This week's layout was inspired by Let's Get Sketchy February Week 5's Challenge designed by Brenshevia .
I  also was inspired by the  ARTastic  Challenge for March.  They are featuring a really quirky artwork on wood veneer by                           Mia Taninaka called,  "Oh The Wise One".
These two challenges were really a lot of fun!  Thank you for all your inspiration!

February Week 4 Challenge

Hi!
Here comes my second layout of the year using a photo that friends sent as their Christmas card.  The picture is of our neighbors Ken and Suzanne's 3 beautiful daughters, Katie, Erin and Ashlyn in 2008.  Over at ScrapMuch?  they are having a February Color Challenge which helped bring about the colors I used in my layout.  I was also inspired by Let's Get Sketchy 's February Week 4's challenge designed by Sarah KingLoved all the layering!  But the first thing that popped out about this sketch was the circles!  So I went looking for everything circles.  Circle and polk a dot papers, circle stickers and circle die cuts.
Even the border around the photo had circles!
It was a lot of fun going around in circles!

February's Second Challenge

Hello again!
Love this week's Let's Get Sketchy  challenge designed by Bev Code .  I also combined it with  the
Lasting Memories #279 " The Blues" Challenge.
One of our family summer vacations was to Lake Tahoe.  A very beautiful place where you feel like you can touch the clouds!  We all went on a boat ride one day where my son, Sky and my daughter, Ashley did parasailing.  This layout is of Sky's turn.
 Hence the title "Sky High"
A very fun day I will always remember!

It looked like there were fingerprints on the background of the sketch so I used my fingers with different color inks to make clouds.

     Here are some close-ups

Tip:  I did not have enough letters of one brand for the title so I used a combination of three different brands.
I actually think it made the title more interesting.

Loved using Jolee's boutique 3D boat and Vellum Waves to add dimension

February's First Challenges

Hi!
Been having a tough week and so I am a little behind. This week's layout was inspired by
Let's Get Sketchy Week 1 challenge that was designed by Brenshevia.  I am also doing the
Challenge YourSelf #26 : "One Little Word".  My one little word for 2016 is Memories.  I plan to scrapbook old and new memories all year long! Another challenge is at DoubleClickSkittles #41 "Use a Heart" On the layout I used a laser cut heart from BoBunny and a clear stamp of tiny hearts from Stampabilities "Our Wedding".
The photo on my layout is of mother (me) and daughter (Ashley) strolling hand and hand on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.      Which is right by the Brooklyn Bridge with views of Lower Manhattan and the New York Harbor.                                                                                   A lovely place for a afternoon walk.
