    Let It Snow

    Happy and Creative New Year!

Hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones and are ready to start the New Year in a  creative way.
Our January challenge over at Picture This is "Mixed media"!

For those of you unsure of what mixed media is exactly - "Mixed media" tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media—for example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a "mixed media" work. The main idea is to mix dry (paper, canvas, textiles) and wet (paints, texture paste, inks) media in one piece of work.

So gather some supplies such as different sorts of papers, inks, stamps, Gesso, texture paste, stencils,
embellishments, etc…. and create a "MIxed media" project.

Remember that we are not limited to only using paper or only creating scrapbooking projects. If you feel like you'd like to try making a card, canvas or an off the page project - go for it!
End of the day art is about expanding your horizons and stepping out of ones comfort zone.
    Now let's have some FUN!

For my Mixed-media project I started with a photo from when we lived in New Hampshire where it snowed a lot!  Then I gathered all my supplies that were related to snow!   Pattern paper that had a snow theme, wooden snowflakes (that I covered with white heavy gesso and some glitter), "Let it Snow" and Snowflake stamps, and some snowflake elements.

As you can see, I created a very snowy and wintery layout!

I also got inspired by " The Scrappy Sketches " January Sketch LO Challenge
    (deadline is January 29th).

    Merry Christmas

    Hello!  Welcome to December!
At "Picture This" we are "Getting into shape"!
You will need to create a layout using shapes of some sort, for example, squares, hexagons, triangles, circles, etc…
Then over at "Let's Get Sketchy" Brenshevia designed another fun sketch to help get your juices following!

The shape I chose was "circles" in all sizes.  I started with a wreath (circle) and then added all different size circle embellishments.  Round Epoxy stickers, Jewels, Crystals, and Rhinestones.  I also took thread and put it around the whole wreath.
I guess you can say I used another shape, "squares" on my layout because I added some presents and the photos of my sweet children are square!
The photos are of my two children when they were very young in 1991. We went to the town library (one of our fun places to go every week) to bring Santa their Christmas Wish list.  As you can see in the photo below, my daughter, Ashley, was not very pleased to sit on Santa's lap.  But my son, Sky, was!
    I really miss those days!

    Beary Special

    Hello!
Wow, it's October, the beginning of Autumn, my favorite time of year! The air is becoming so crisp and clean.  Time for all the trees to show off their inner beauty, to go pumpkin and apple picking, celebrate Halloween and to start another month of challenges!
     Love it!!
Over at "Picture This" we are challenging you to create a LO using " Layers + fussy cutting + one photo".
My DTM layout  for this October 1st fun challenge is composed of  Brenshevia's  Let's Get Sketch and  Challenge YOUrself .
This month, "Challenge YOUrself" would like to see sewing on your page.  It can be hand stitching, machine stitching, embroidery, ANY kind of sewing!!  The only other requirement is that you include a photo with YOU!
My LO started with one of my most treasured photo of my son, just a few days old, in my arms.
I was rocking him in the special chair that my husband and I had brought in town and carried many blocks home because we did not own a car at the time.
I used one of my favorite paper collection, Kaisercraft - Teddy Bears Picnic.  I fussy cut a whole bunch of the teddy bears (they are so cute!) and layered many of the cut away journaling cards.  I added embroidery thread in the buttons, rickrack around the photo and embellished with some snaps.
It was a lot of fun putting together this layout and I hope you will enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it!

    Always Remember

    Hello again!
Today's layout is in remembrance of September 11th, 2001.   Fifteen years ago the USA experienced one of the most heartbreaking day in it's history.  I will never forget that morning on 911, when it felt like the world had stopped and that nothing would be the same!   All the airports were shut down and I remember most of the TV channels and shows were not on the air.
It seemed like the whole country had a day of silent.
But I rather reminisce more about the following day, September 12th, when Americans came together by pulling up our boot straps and tried to take back our country!  It was amazing how many American flags were everywhere to show pride for our country!
Flags were flying on people's homes, in front yards, out of car windows, off buildings!  It was so inspiring!
    Our country was UNITED!
I really wish our citizens now would try to remember that day because we need to unite again for the good of the country.
Well, back to my layout.  My first inspiration came from looking through some photos of my family's trips to New York City.
One photo is of the skyline of NYC and the other is of myself and (one of my stars) my daughter, Ashley in front of the skyline from Brooklyn Heights.
I also got inspiration from two other sources.
Picture This which is having a new challenge about anything to do with Stars.  "Wish upon a Star"
and over at Let's Get Sketchy where Brenshevia has come up with another lovely sketch.
